Laotian textiles benefit from EU preferential policies for origin

According to the Laotian "Economic and Social News" report, the Lao Textile Association has revealed that in the first six months of 2011, Lao textile exports reached more than 100 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 28% year-on-year. Among them, exports to the EU, the United States, and Japan accounted for 75.3%, 17%, and 3.3%, respectively.

The reason for the substantial increase in Laos textile exports was mainly due to the fact that the EU has implemented preferential policies on origins for less developed countries since January 2011, such as the elimination of product type restrictions. However, the Lao Textile Association is concerned that with the sustained and rapid economic and social development in Laos and the increasing demand for labor in all walks of life, the textile industry in Laos will face greater worker shortage pressure.
