Abstract: The research and development of flame retardant polypropylene special materials are made of polypropylene as the base resin, adding flame retardant, stable and other additives, and melting and mixing. The test results show that the selected β flame retardant system has good compatibility with polypropylene material, good flame retardant effect and less impact on other properties; the special material processing process is simple and easy to operate and control.

With the rapid development of polymer materials, the production and application of plastic resins have penetrated into all walks of life. As one of the three major synthetic polymer materials, polypropylene is widely used in the automotive, construction, electronic and electrical industries, etc. due to its advantages of light weight, easy processing, good heat resistance and chemical resistance, and excellent mechanical and mechanical properties. The speed is extremely fast, the variety of products is varied, and some modified products have gradually replaced the engineering plastics with higher prices. However, due to the structure of polypropylene itself (oxygen index is only about 17.4), it is easy to burn in case of fire, high in calorific value, fast in burning, accompanied by smoke and dripping, prone to fire, giving people life and property. It causes great damage and its application area is greatly limited. Therefore, the plastic polymer material has many excellent properties that bring unprecedented comfort and convenience to human beings, but also bring potential fire hazard problems. Many countries have formulated corresponding regulations on the combustion properties of polymer materials and The application has imposed strict restrictions; China has made provisions for the use of flame retardant materials for aircraft, ships and mine equipment, and has also made flame retardant performance requirements for polymer materials on construction, home appliances, and electronic and electrical components.
For polypropylene plastic products used in the electrical and electronic industry, such as wall switches, power connectors, electrical plugs, sockets, etc., because of their direct electrical contact, they are often connected to them due to high voltage, heat, and discharge. The burning of plastic parts causes fires, and it is necessary to modify the flame retardant of polypropylene plastics for electronic appliances.
The project researched and developed the electrical flame retardant polypropylene special material (named FRPP-3), which was established, designed and developed according to the product requirements of manufacturers such as electric plugs and power connectors in Zhejiang. The special material is based on PP powder as matrix resin, adding main and auxiliary flame retardant, anti-heat oxidation stability system, processing modifier, coloring agent and other additives, and screening the flame retardant system through reasonable optimization. The mixed and twin-screw granulating unit is melt-extruded and granulated. The products have reached the index requirements through testing and analysis and user test. The processed products meet the user's requirements. The special material processing and production process is simple, easy to operate and control, and the required raw materials are easy to purchase in China, the cost is low, and the market application prospect is broad.

Conclusions (1) The flame retardant system selected from FRPP-3 special materials has good compatibility with polypropylene materials; the addition amount of B flame retardant system is small, which has little effect on other performance indexes of materials.
(2) The flame retardant modification of FRPP-3 special materials belongs to additive modification, which has simple processing technology, easy operation, control and low processing cost, and is conducive to large-scale processing and production.
