These golden pearls are made by implanting a small piece of oyster shell tissue into small oysters and then slowly cultivating them.
This transplant forms a pearl sac, and calcium carbonate is continuously deposited in this sac. After a period of growth, the pearl sac grows into a pearl.
Gold pearls take about two to five years from transplant to maturity.
“Pearl farming is a rather time consuming process,†explains Jacques Branellec, managing director of Jewelmer. “Any change in temperature and hydrological conditions can affect the growth of oysters. Although I have been engaged in pearl farming for 38 years, I am still learning new knowledge from the farming process.â€
