On December 23, 2010, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and BabyUnited LLC issued a voluntary recall of baby leg warmers and socks made in China. The products involved are part of the BabyLegs line, including infant leg sleeves, knee socks, and regular socks. These items were sold nationwide from August to November 2010, with each pair priced at $11.
The recalled items feature heart-shaped decals in powder pink, white, and violet. However, these decorations can easily detach from the fabric. If ingested by infants, they pose a serious choking hazard. According to the CPSC, there has been one reported incident where a child put a decal in her mouth, causing suffocation, though no medical treatment was required.
Approximately 4,500 pairs of these products were sold across the U.S. As a precaution, the CPSC urges parents and caregivers to immediately remove any recalled legwear or socks from children and to carefully check for and remove the heart-shaped decals. Consumers are also advised to contact BabyUnited LLC for a full refund or store credit. This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of monitoring children’s toys and clothing for potential safety risks.
