Recently, Jia Lianchao, the honorary director of the Provincial Arts & Crafts Industry Association, visited Gushi County, known as China's "Hometown of Willow Weaving," to explore the development of the Liubian industry. During his visit, he emphasized several key strategies for promoting sustainable growth in the sector and offered valuable guidance for the future direction of the industry.
First, Jia stressed the importance of clarifying the long-term vision for the Liubian industry. He pointed out that addressing current challenges—such as production limitations, market saturation, and outdated business models—is essential. To move forward, the industry must focus on developing high-quality, competitive products through continuous research and innovation. By expanding market reach and shifting away from traditional small-scale farming approaches, the goal is to build a modern, efficient production system aligned with market demands.
Second, he highlighted the need for weaving companies to adopt a more proactive mindset toward development. At the same time, government departments should enhance their support by providing policy guidance, financial incentives, and infrastructure improvements. The Liubian Association also plays a critical role in fostering collaboration among stakeholders. Together, they should work to create a supportive ecosystem that promotes the growth of the Liubian industry. This includes building a modern industrial system, an advanced urban framework, and an innovative mechanism that supports both economic and social development. Ultimately, the aim is to position Gushi Liubian as a key driver in the integration of industry and urbanization, ensuring it becomes a lasting pillar of Henan’s economy.
Third, Jia encouraged continued investment in the industry, emphasizing the need to strengthen foundational elements such as production bases and scale expansion. A well-structured development plan should be implemented to address major obstacles hindering progress. Furthermore, efforts should be made to enhance the brand image of “Hometown of Willow Weaving,†turning Liubian into a cultural and economic powerhouse. By doing so, the industry can not only enrich local communities but also expand its influence globally.
According to reports, Gushi County has been leveraging its natural resources, geographical advantages, and rich cultural heritage to establish the Liubian industry as a core driver of local economic growth. Over the years, the county has made significant strides, achieving rapid development and remarkable success. Currently, there are over 100 willow weaving enterprises operating within the region. Their products are exported to more than 86 countries and regions worldwide, contributing significantly to the local economy. The industry has created employment opportunities for thousands of people in the Huai Township area, helping them increase their income and improve their quality of life. As a result, the Liubian industry has become the largest cluster, most important pillar, and wealth-generating industry in Gushi County.
