Export textiles should strictly control excessive formaldehyde and azo dyes

In 2011, a total of 6513 batches of formaldehyde and azo dyes were exported from Yiwu, Zhejiang, and 88 batches were rejected. Among them, 32 were unqualified for formaldehyde, 56 were for azo dyes, and 3 were unqualified. The remaining unqualified cases were found in the textiles exported from the market for procurement. The violations were more prominent.

The main reasons for this are as follows: Some foreign customers temporarily purchase products randomly in the market. They only have requirements on the styles and specifications of textiles, and they do not require internal physical and chemical properties. In addition, some foreign companies choose factories or suppliers. , did not conduct a serious assessment of its quality control capabilities, only the price as a selection criteria. At the same time, due to the fact that the price of raw and auxiliary materials has risen and the price of workers has risen, some of the production plants have adopted lower-cost fabrics for cost control, which has led to a situation that exceeds the standard.

Direct contact with formaldehyde on the skin can cause dermatitis, pigmentation, and necrosis. Frequent inhalation of small amounts of formaldehyde can cause symptoms such as chronic poisoning. Some azo dye-containing textiles react with human skin for a prolonged period of time and react to form carcinogenic aromatic amine compounds that can cause human body lesions. Therefore, since the beginning of this year, the control of formaldehyde and banned azo dyes has become increasingly stringent in various countries.

In this regard, the inspection and quarantine authorities reminded foreign trade group units and related manufacturers: First, strictly control the procurement inspection, foreign trade companies should purchase textiles, or manufacturing enterprises should strictly check the customs when purchasing fabrics, and should supply raw and auxiliary materials during procurement. The company shall clarify procurement requirements to ensure that the content of formaldehyde and banned azo dyes in the textiles purchased meets the requirements; secondly, it shall actively improve its own quality consciousness, continuously improve the quality management level, master the standards of the importing countries, and make products according to the requirements of the importing country. The third is to strengthen the communication and contact with inspection and quarantine departments, keep abreast of the latest foreign technical regulations, standards and dynamic changes, and strengthen the ability to respond to foreign technical trade measures.
