It is reported that the Institute of Membrane Technology and Application Engineering has developed an air purification membrane material that can block 0.33 micron ultrafine particles. Ren Yiwei, deputy director of the center, said that the retention rate of this material for 0.33 micron ultrafine particles is as high as 99.99%, and the related technology is currently at the domestic leading level.

When smog weather and urban pollution become important factors affecting the quality of life of citizens, many citizens have brought masks to reduce the harm of PM2.5 to the human body. However, Ren Yiwei said that most cotton masks on the market are difficult to block fine particles below 2.5 microns, and medical masks can only block 5% to 10% of fine particles below 2.5 microns. Even the latest PM2.5 protective masks currently on the market can only withstand up to 50% to 60%.

Ren Yiwei told reporters that the filter material developed this time is made of ultra-fine fiber, only a few tens of nanometers, which is equivalent to one thousandth of the hair, while the fiber of the traditional material is about tens to hundreds of microns. "So, wearing such a mask will not be suffocating, and the comfort will be very good."
