Seven hole cotton hot, was misapproved "concept mislead"

"Experts from the Guangzhou Fiber Product Testing Institute, such as Guan Xiaoyuan, have advised companies not to label their products as 'seven-hole cotton' on the packaging. This is because the term can mislead consumers into thinking it's made of natural cotton, when in fact, it's typically a synthetic fiber like polyester. The reporter from China Fiber shared this warning. Industry experts have pointed out that the labeling of polyester bedding as "seven-hole cotton" or "nine-hole cotton" is purely a marketing tactic. They urge the media to expose these misleading practices so that consumers can make informed choices and avoid being deceived. The market for winter quilts is currently booming, with various perforated "quilts" becoming highly popular. Prices range from just a few dollars to several hundred. However, according to the reporter’s findings, these so-called "hole cotton" products are not made of real cotton but are instead polyester-based, which classifies them as chemical fibers. Compared to traditional quilts, seven-hole and five-hole cotton products offer advantages like softness, lightness, warmth, and ease of washing. However, many products labeled as "seven-hole cotton" on the market are not 100% genuine. Instead, they often contain other materials, leading to lower quality. "When buying a 'seven-hole' quilt, it's not about the weight—it usually weighs around three pounds. The key factor is the season: a seven-hole quilt is best suited for indoor temperatures between 4°C and 12°C in winter, 12°C to 22°C in spring and autumn, and above 22°C for air-conditioned rooms," said an expert from the China National Textile Association. Different manufacturers produce varying quality and prices, so it's advisable to choose reputable brands. Mr. Ho, a resident of Taiyuan, Shanxi, was confused after purchasing bedding labeled as "seven-hole cotton." He couldn't tell if the product was actually made of real cotton. Many consumers share his confusion, especially since the price of these "hole cotton" products has been rising steadily. When questioned by the reporter, a salesperson at the mall confidently claimed the product was 100% cotton. However, upon opening the package, the instructions revealed the filling contained 90% polyester and 10% cotton. The salesperson quickly changed their story, stating that only the outer cover was pure cotton. After further investigation, the reporter found that many products labeled as "seven-hole cotton" used the term to mask the fact that they were mostly made of polyester. Consumers were often misled into thinking they were buying real cotton, only to discover later that they had purchased a chemical fiber product. "This is misleading and confusing," one consumer said. "I first thought 'seven-hole cotton' was just regular white cotton with some holes. But now I'm not sure." In reality, the term "hole cotton" refers to polyester fibers that have multiple holes visible under a microscope. The number of holes affects the quilt's warmth, breathability, and fluffiness. More holes mean more air trapped within, which improves insulation and comfort. Experts suggest that the correct name should be "seven-hole polyester fiber" rather than "seven-hole cotton," as the term is misleading. Industry insiders revealed that the term "seven-hole cotton" was coined without scientific basis, but it caught on because of the strong association of cotton with comfort and quality. For consumers looking to buy "seven-hole" bedding, it's important to check both the fill and the fabric. A good quilt should feel smooth, return to its original shape easily, and have tight stitching to prevent the fill from escaping. Checking the seams and stitches carefully is also essential—good quilts have even, straight stitches. While four-hole, seven-hole, and nine-hole quilts operate on similar principles, seven-hole and nine-hole versions are generally more advanced, offering better comfort and fluffiness, though they come at a higher price.
