Guangdong Consumer Association: seven wolves and other underwear seized unqualified

The Consumer Association of Guangdong Province recently conducted a joint inspection with the Meizhou and Qingyuan Consumer Councils, testing 34 pieces of knitted undergarments. The results revealed that 12 items failed to meet the required standards, resulting in an unqualified rate of over 30%. Surprisingly, some well-known brands such as Wolf Rib Vest were among the non-compliant products. To ensure an accurate and realistic assessment, the Consumer Council staff purchased the samples as regular consumers from seven different stores, including shopping malls and supermarkets in Guangzhou, Meizhou, and Qingyuan. A total of 34 samples were collected, representing 23 manufacturers from various regions such as Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shanghai, Shantou, Foshan, Zhongshan, Zhejiang, Fujian, Puning, Meizhou, Shunde, and Qingdao. The test included high, medium, and low-end knitted underwear, covering a wide range of products available on the market. The evaluation was based on several key indicators, including product labels, fiber composition, formaldehyde levels, pH value, and more. After thorough testing, it was found that 12 out of 34 samples did not meet the standards, giving a pass rate of only 64.7%. Among these, four samples had pH values that exceeded the acceptable limits. These included popular brands like Wolf Rib Vest, Uki Mei Underwear, Kay Peng Jiabao Baby Shirt, and Dong Bin Baby Shirt. Experts warn that if the pH level of textiles is too high or too low, it can disrupt the skin's natural balance and weaken its protective barrier, potentially leading to skin allergies or infections. This highlights the importance of proper quality control and consumer awareness when purchasing undergarments, especially for sensitive skin. Consumers are advised to pay close attention to product labels and choose reputable brands to ensure their safety and comfort. The findings also call for stricter regulations and better enforcement to improve the overall quality of clothing products in the market.
