Guangdong Consumer Association: seven wolves and other underwear seized unqualified

The Consumer Association of Guangdong Province recently conducted a joint investigation with the Consumer Councils of Meizhou and Qingyuan cities, testing 34 pieces of knitted undergarments. The results were alarming: 12 items failed to meet the required standards, resulting in an unqualified rate exceeding 35%. Surprisingly, several well-known brands, including wolf rib vests and other popular names, were among the non-compliant products. The comparative test was carried out by Consumer Council staff who acted as regular shoppers, purchasing the samples from seven different shopping malls and supermarkets in Guangzhou, Meizhou, and Qingyuan. A total of 34 samples were collected, representing 23 different manufacturers. These products came from various regions, including Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shanghai, Shantou, Foshan, Zhongshan, Zhejiang, Fujian, Puning, Meizhou, Shunde, and Qingdao. The tests covered a wide range of products—high-end, mid-range, and low-end knitted undergarments. The inspection focused on key parameters such as labeling, fiber composition, formaldehyde levels, pH value, and more. Among the 12 unqualified items, four had pH values that did not meet the national standards. These included popular brands like Wolf Rib Vest, Uki Mei, Kay Peng Jiabao baby shirts, and Dong Bin baby clothes. According to experts, if the pH level of textile products is too high or too low, it can disrupt the natural balance of the skin and weaken its protective barrier, potentially leading to allergic reactions or infections. This finding highlights the importance of quality control in the production of everyday clothing, especially for sensitive skin. Consumers are advised to be more cautious when selecting undergarments and to pay attention to product labels and certifications. The report has sparked concern among both buyers and manufacturers, emphasizing the need for stricter quality checks and greater transparency in the textile industry.
